Not All Cleaning Companies Are Created Equal

We have found over the years that there are a number of misconceptions about commercial cleaning companies. Some believe that they are all the same. “It’s just cleaning. Every cleaning company knows how to clean”. With that misconception, many people will base their hiring decision on price. Price is important for sure. But doing the job professionally and thoroughly is the most important. Here are a few of the most common misconceptions:

1. Commercial cleaning providers are all the same

While price is a very important piece of what to consider when hiring a cleaning company, it is, by no means, the only thing you should take into consideration. Often we have found is that the lowest bids come from inexperienced cleaning companies that are just trying to get a “foot in the door”. They may not understand the time, effort, or manpower needed to do the job properly. Therefore, you may end up with results you are not happy with or a building that is not properly cleaned and sanitized.

2. The higher the price, the better the service

This may, at first, sound contradictory to the point above. Again, while the cheapest may not be the right choice, you don’t need to go with the most expensive. It’s certainly no guarantee that, just because they are the highest price, they are better. Sometimes it just means that they are more expensive. That’s why it’s important to consider other factors than price. It could be reputation, length of time in business, regular communication, and a thorough understanding of your building. This is an important decision for your business. Your cleaning company should be properly vetted.

3. Bigger is always better

There are a number of large franchised cleaning companies throughout the country. While they may be very large, that doesn’t guarantee that they will do a good job for you. If a cleaning company is well established, has a good reputation, and provides superior results, they don’t necessarily have to be a large chain. A good private cleaning company often provides better results than one of the large chains.

4. If it looks clean, it must be clean

There is a common misconception that all cleaning companies know how to properly clean. Just because a surface looks clean, it doesn’t mean it’s sanitized or disinfected. You want a cleaning company who’s technicians are trained to not only clean but sanitize and disinfect as well. It’s vital to address all the potential breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. Not all cleaning companies are proficient with this. You need a company that is dedicated and trained to clean, sanitize, and disinfect.

5. It’s cheaper to hire in-house cleaners

We’ve heard this a lot. But when considering bringing cleaning in-house, there may be some drawbacks or things you haven’t considered. It’s important to understand the true costs of hiring in-house cleaning staff vs. an outside vendor. Not only will you have to cover their salary but all the other costs of employing someone. There’s also the cost of managing employees. Who will have the time to oversee and manage them. Moreover, who will clean when an employee is out sick or on vacation?

You may have some preconceived notions regarding commercial cleaning companies. Perhaps some of these notions come from having bad experiences with other cleaners. Some things you want to make sure of is that you receive prompt, polite customer service, quick response to your concerns, issues and questions, and thorough industry knowledge.
